Uncle Ray always had a special place in my heart. Before life getting so busy and full, we got to spend time with him, and Aunt Joan, seeing them often at Charismatic meetings.
There is an Uncle Ray story I want to share from 45 years ago that reveals his character and faith. When the Lord allows hard things to happen we see where we stand with Him.
Uncle Ray was a Champion.
He was working in Manhattan, and on his way walking to work, a huge ( if I recall correctly) bundle of insulation from a skyscraper fell from a building under construction knocking him face down to the ground…
Yet….
He lived.
When I went to see him at home after the hospital, his face was bruised - he ached - but he was LAUGHING, Glowing with JOY because the Lord protected him :) he told me that morning before the accident he had called Lisa and asked her to read Psalm 91 since he hadn’t been able to.
Psalm 91 - all about the protection of the Lord Almighty that uncle Ray prayed everyday for his family..
That is the essence of Uncle Ray- JOY spinning with initiative into love in action.
He will be, and already is, greatly missed. My dad’s uncle, who was younger than him, will always have a special place in all of our hearts as well as Aunt Joan. When we visited after the accident, I was concerned how Uncle Ray and Aunt Joan were. Aunt Joan opened the door exuding JOY ! Feeling blessed that Uncle Ray escaped death and never asking “Why God, why Ray, why us” instead Aunt Joan impressed me with her ( and Uncle Ray’s) overwhelming gratefulness.
To Dear Aunt Joan, and all who are Uncle Ray’s, we are asking that the Presence of the Living God comfort and uphold you all at this very hard time. And to Uncle Ray- if you can read this- we look forward to rejoicing with you again.
