Obituary of Thomas Pothen
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
Revelation 21:4
Thomas Mithramadathil Pothen, affectionately known as Kuttapan, was born on January 1, 1948 in Kerala, India in the district of Kozhencherry. He was born to the late Mr. Thomas Mathew and the late Mrs. Mariamma Mathai, and was the youngest of five siblings. Prior to immigrating to America in 1985, he worked at the Muthoot Finance Ltd for more than a decade in his home town.
Kuttapan lived with his family in Floral Park, NY, and was known for his career as a life insurance agent working for multiple underwriters. He worked extensively with the Malayalee community, and built strong relationships. His home parish was the Epiphany Marthoma Church, where he was a member since 1985.
He was known for his affectionate and loving personality. He gave generously and wholeheartedly to others, and the warmth of his smile brought people together. Health and fitness were very important to him, and he was always engaged in activities such as taking walks with his friends, going to the gym, gardening, and swimming.
Kuttapan served his life as a faithful son, caring for both of his parents to the end of their lives. He was a loyal brother, providing support and love for his siblings. He worked hard to strengthen and care for the lives of his nieces and nephew.
He was a loving husband and father. He filled his home with love and joy through his spirit and his humor. He is remembered by those close to him by his comical and light hearted nature, always filling his home with laughter and showering his family constantly with hugs and kisses. He was a loyal friend, and his simple gestures of love have left lasting memories in our hearts. Kuttapan passed away peacefully at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, surrounded by his family and friends.
Kuttapan is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Jeny, son Jerrin, son-in-law Ajit, and grandchildren Isaac and Sophie. Although he will be missed deeply by his family and friends, they feel at peace knowing that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
