In addition to being fluent in Malayalam, he also taught himself Tamil and English, and displayed an avid interest in the national affairs of both India and America. He immigrated to the United States in 1979, and worked in various jobs.

Babychayan was a member of Epiphany Mar Thoma Church and faithfully served in various roles at the church throughout his life.

Babychayan was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and will be missed dearly by friends and family alike. Babychayan is survived by his Son and Daughter-in-law George and Bindu, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John, daughter and son-in-law Alice and Raju, daughter and son-in-law Annie and Prem and he found immeasurable joy in being surrounded by 11 grandchildren: Jason Jacob, Roby Abraham, Marilyn Chacko, Reena Abraham, Shawn Jacob,  Melissa Chacko, Ryan
