Obituary of Francis Rawley Power

Francis R. Power passed away suddenly the morning of November 24th, 2022 at the age of 85. Despite a recent battle with cancer, he had been happy and healthy when celebrating an early Thanksgiving with his family just a few days before his passing. Frank was a retired Lt. Commander in the US Navy, having served his country over 20 years on deployments all over the world including Antarctica, Bermuda (where he met his wife Kathy of 55 years), the Philippines, Virginia and New York. He received over a dozen medals for Navy Achievement, Navy Commendation, National Defense, Antarctica Expedition and Meritorious Service. After retiring from the Navy, he earned his Master’s Degree in Marine Transportation and worked for New York City as a Captain navigating ships along the Hudson, training the next generations in maritime safety at King’s Point Coast Guard Academy and spent 20 years with Penn Maritime as their Director of Safety where he received an award from the DOT for assisting maritime vessels after 9/11. For Frank, family meant everything. “Family first” is something he said time and again, but also what he lived by. It was evidenced by his dedication to his parents, brother and sister, but most notably to his wife, his children and grandchildren. He was immensely proud of their achievements and would take every opportunity to extol their latest accomplishments to friends, family, and anyone who would listen. A loving husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife Kathleen, children Loraine Kehoe (Francis), Francis (Renee) and Karen (Brian Oakes) and grandchildren Caitlin, Lauren, Brendan, Sean, Aidan, Michael & Grace. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable contribution to Toys for Tots or St, Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
