Obituary of Marie Abiuso

Beloved Mother and Grandmother. Marie Abiuso formerly of Bayside, New York passed away Tuesday, November 29th at the age of 95. Marie lead an admirable life blessed by a loving family and many friends. Born in Ozone Park, New York on August 20th, 1927, she was the daughter of immigrant parents, the late Rosaria Delgiudice Tortora and Tony Tortora. Marie attended John Adams High School then worked for BC/BS Office Manager. She was married to the late Pat Abiuso and had a wonderful marriage for 30 years till he passed away from Hodgkins. She remained CFO of both his hair salons till the age of 86, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Marie cherished her children – Connie Mattimiro, Michael Abiuso and Rosemarie DiMaria and her husband Mario. Her pride and joy were her 4 grandchildren, Michael Abiuso, Christina DiMaria Suffredini, Maria-Elena DiMaria Gorini and Vanessa DiMaria Austin. Marie had a wonderful work ethic and lived a rich life surrounded by family and friends. Her joy was bringing people together with a home-cooked meal. She loved the Yankees and music and listened to Sinatra, Roselli, Claudio Villa, Tony Bennett, and Jerry Vale to mention a few. Marie had so much wisdom and was a gentle, quiet, strong woman that embraced life with her beautiful smile and caring ways. She will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren and all those who knew her. She will live in our hearts forever. Henri Nouwen once said, “Death is not an enemy who puts an end to everything, but a friend who takes us by the hand and leads us into the kingdom of eternal love.” May she be our angel in heaven.
