Josephine Savino

Obituary of Josephine Savino

Josephine Savino, née DiMeo, passed away February 1, 2023 in Roslyn Heights, New York. Jo was born November 18, 1928 in Long Island City to her loving parents Mario and Maria DiMeo. She grew up in Queens, New York with her five siblings. In her 20s, she had a chance encounter with the TV repairman at her sister's house, which turned into a loving 67 year marriage. We’ve heard people say that Mr. Right won’t come knocking on your door, but for her, Tom Savino did. They lived in Jackson Heights, Queens, and after their first two kids they moved to New Hyde Park, Long Island. Over the years, Jo & Tom lived in Asharoken, New York, for 20 years, and eventually retired to Garden City. They raised their three beautiful children, and watched their family grow with the addition of eight wonderful grandchildren.

Jo was a warm, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a proud homemaker who would do anything for her family, especially her grandchildren. A weekly tradition was to get together with the extended family for Sunday macaroni or the World Famous Savino charcoal BBQ. Jo loved to travel, and her and Tom cruised around the world. She also loved puzzles & games, crocheting & knitting, birdwatching (from the kitchen table), cooking, and spending time with the family.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Savino, her three children Thomas Savino Jr. (Roni), Joanne Asfour (Michael), Lisa Maher (Jerry), and her eight grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Lauren, Thomas, Nicholas, Julia, Gabriella, and Gianna.

Rest in peace, Jo. We will love and miss you, but know that you will be with us our whole lives.

Thank you Dr. Hue Ly, Dr. James Drakakis, Dr. Matt Mene & all of the staff at Sun Harbor Manor, especially Shelda and Sarah. You all were there for our family at the hardest time in our lives, and we will forever be grateful for the care, love, and support you showed our mother, Jo, and father Tom, throughout their stay.
