Marika Karatzas

Obituary of Marika Karatzas

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marika Karatzas, who left us peacefully on February 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Marika, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, exemplified love and kindness, qualities that defined her and the life she led. Marika was born and raised in the Village of Vavili in Chios, Greece on October 7, 1932. She moved to America and married her beloved husband, Stavros in 1965 in Monessen, Pennsylvania. Soon after they married, they moved to New York and started their family. They had two children, Angelo and Toula. Marika and Stavros built their beautiful family on a foundation of love, peace, and togetherness. She took great pride in her family, and never stopped raising them. Marika was compassionate, proud, and committed to her family. Once her children were older and on their own, Marika, an incredible seamstress, opened her own dress shop “Marika’s Boutique” in Greenvale, New York. She was also an exceptional cook and baker, known for her compassion, big heart, and bright smile. She was also a remarkable woman loved and respected by all who knew her. Marika had an unwavering devotion to her faith and trusted God to guide every aspect of her life. She was a longtime, dedicated member of the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Port Washington. Marika is survived by her loving husband Stavros, her beautiful children Angelo (Jeiny), and Toula (Neil), and her three grandchildren Stavros, Marika, and Niko, who she cherished and adored. Marika is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews both here and in Greece. She believed in family, and she is now reunited with her seven siblings, and her parents. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Marika’s honor, reflecting her lifelong commitment to her church and helping others
