Joyce Sammynaiken, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born on October 13, 1933, in Canje, Guyana, Joyce lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. In 1951, she married Mr. Sammynaiken, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in faith and dedication.
Joyce migrated to Ontario, Canada and later settled in New York.
Joyce was the proud and loving mother of six children: Loretta Muthuveren (Bennet), Hendrix Sammynaiken, Sandra Deygoo (Dennis), Franco Sammynaiken (Ruth), Ann Ramdhany (Joseph), and Tri “Ina” Herrera (Jose). Her legacy extends through her 16 grandchildren — Leon, Dianne, Bonny (Donnie), David (Joanne), Danny, Andrew (Callie), Kieran, Devin, Bdhanya, Tiffany, Timothy (Ritu), Jessica (Justin), Nathaniel, Justina, Gabriel, and Hannah — and her cherished great-grandchildren: Maximus, Demetrius, Julius, Joshua, Phoenix, Arya, Jaiden, Mila, Emmy, and Kayleigh.
A woman of many talents and passions, Joyce enjoyed knitting, sewing, solving word search puzzles, cooking delicious meals, and creating a warm, welcoming home for all who entered. She loved reading, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends, offering endless hospitality and kindness.
Joyce’s life was a testament to strength, compassion, and joy. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
