Mrs. Mary John was born in Paippattuthara House, Pulikkuttissery, Aymanam Panchayat, Kottayam, Kerala, on November 2nd, 1938. She was the eldest of six children of Mr. P. P. Thomas and Mrs. Aleykutty Thomas.

After Secondary School Leaving Cerificate (SSLC), she received her teaching certificate. She taught at St. George’s L.P.S. at Valyad until 1990 when she took an early retirement to immigrate to the US with her husband and three sons. She was a member of Kerala Aided Primary Teachers Union.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Jose (Denny) and Tessy, Thomas and Mary, and Binoy and Smitha, her daughter’s spouse Manuel, twelve grandchildren, and great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings Gracy George, Annamma Chacko, Baby Thomas, Mercy Joseph, and Babu Thomas, and their spouses and their families.

She is predeceased by her husband Joseph John Thoompumkal, her daughter Daisy, her brothers-in-law Mathew, Sebastian, Joseph, Varghese, Thomas, and her sisters-in-law Pennamma and Mary.

She was a very religious woman and led her life based on her regular reading of the Bible. She faithfully carried out her obligations to her family and to her teaching. She made sure to raise her children in the strong faith by having evening prayers and attending masses regularly. 

Mrs. Mary John joined her Lord Jesus in Heaven on Monday, April 28, 2025.
