Obituary of Joseph Dermot McMullan
Joseph Dermot McMullan, 78, of Garden City Park, NY passed away on April 30, 2025. Born in Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland on January 12, 1947, Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his kind heart, and his constant willingness to help any family member in need.
Joe was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, as well as a member to the New York Police Department. After being injured in the line of duty in 1980 and being medically retired, Joe started his own New York based car livery service which continued until 2001 when he retired.
Joe is survived by his wife, Maura McMullan; his siblings Paul McMullan (Lynn), Brian McMullan (Linda), and Deirdre McMullan; his children, Eric McMullan (Crissy), Annemarie McMullan (Michael), Patricia McMullan and Siobhan McMullan; and his granddaughters, Molly McMullan and Abigail McMullan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Patricia McMullan, and his siblings Kevin McMullan (Arlene), Keiran McMullan (Bridget), and Michael McMullan.
Of all things paramount to Joe in his life was his family. His children were the jewel of his eye and the topic of any initial conversation after not seeing someone for a while (he loved to brag about them). His joy in life was seeing their success. Later in life he found the same in his grandchildren which he adored to the moon and back. He will look down and watch over all of them from now on.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at Notre Dame Church in New Hyde Park, NY on May 24, 2025 at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society in Joe’s memory.
