Obituary of John Joseph McHale
John McHale, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous fight with illness.
Born and raised in Queens, John later made his home in New Hyde Park, where he lived with his beloved wife of 45 years, Susan, and their cherished daughter, Lauren.
John was deeply proud of his education. He was an alumnus of Iona College and went on to earn his MBA from Pace University. His professional career spanned both the financial and nonprofit sectors, including positions at Merrill Lynch, Johnson & Higgins, and Sloan Kettering, as well as work with nonprofit agencies where he dedicated himself to service and leadership.
Faith was at the center of John’s life. He was fiercely devoted to Holy Spirit Church, where he served in many capacities over the years, including as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, CCD instructor, and a member of the Finance Committee. Even after his retirement, John continued his active involvement with the parish community.
John’s passions extended beyond his faith and work. He loved playing tennis, pickleball, and softball, and was a proud and enthusiastic Boston Red Sox fan. He was cared for with love and compassion by the incredible staff of 14 Kimmel, who treated John like family during his illness.
He is survived by his devoted wife Susan, his loving daughter Lauren, his sister Margie and brother-in-law Mike, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who adored him. His memory will also live on in the countless friends and parishioners whose lives he touched.
John fought his illness with incredible strength and never gave up, leaving behind an inspiring legacy of faith, perseverance, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
