Michel George

Obituary of Michel George

Michel C. George was born on October 2, 1957, to C.O. Oomen and Andamma Oomen of Chakkalamuriyil, Chengaroor, Kerala, India. He was the third of ten children, with eight brothers and one sister. The family attended St. George MalankaraCatholic Church in Chengaroor.

After completing his studies at M.G.D. High School, Puthussery, in 1973, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Commerce from C.M.S. College, Kottayam, in 1980.

On September 5, 1986, he married Valsamma George of Madappallil House, Thuruthicadu. He immigrated to the United States in 1987 and lived in Glen Oaks. In 1988, he began his career as a social worker for the City of New York, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2020.

Michel was a blessing to all those around him. He was quiet yet inquisitive. He always cared deeply about his family and relatives across the world. He was altruistic and often went above and beyond to support many charitable organizations throughout his life. He was a devout Christian whose faith guided every aspect of his life. Prayer was his constant companion — not only in times of need, but also in gratitude, reflection, and hope. His unwavering devotion to God shaped his character, his kindness toward others, and the peace he carried in his heart.

Michel is survived by his wife, Valsamma George; nine siblings — Charlie C. Tom, George Joseph, Peter C. George, Sabu Varghese, John C. Tom, George C. Tom, Mathews C., Jacob C. Oomen, and Shoba Josh — along with their spouses and families.
