Obituary of Lawrence Haslbauer

Lawrence Haslbauer

1931-2025

Lawrence “Larry” was the kind of man everyone wished they had at their side.  Larry was an Electrician that could fix your car, build your house and everything in-between.  He was always available for anyone that needed his help with his bucket of tools that he kept in the trunk of his car and he never wanted anything in return from anyone. He was truly a kind soul and he will be missed.

On December 11th 2025, Larry passed away after a long battle with dementia.

Born in the Bronx on November 11th 1931 to John and Anna Haslbauer, he grew up in the Crotona Park section of the Bronx.  In 1950 Larry enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Boxer CV21 in the Korean War during active combat. In 1952 while on leave from the Navy, he went on a blind date and met the love of his life Leonore Junkes.  After his honorable discharge in 1954, Larry returned home, got engaged to Leonore and was married in 1955.  A few years later they purchased their home in Queensborough Hill Flushing NY.  This was the home where they raised their 3 children Pamela, Lawrence and Deborah.

He worked as a mechanic at Foster Brothers in Flushing for a few years before joining the IBEW Local 25 Union as an Electrician.  His boss recognized his superior workmanship and made him a foreman within a few years.    He was a proud member of Local 25 for over 65 years.

Larry loved spending time with his family and friends.  He enjoyed going out to dinner and trying new restaurants as well as returning to his favorites where everyone knew him by name. He was a brown belt in Karate, loved motorcycles, cars, fishing and boating but mostly loved spending time with his family.  He also had a special place in his heart for animals and his home was filled with a lifetime of pets including dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, fish and turtles.

Larry is survived by his wife Leonore, his 3 children and their spouses, Pamela and Richard Schnauthiel, Lawrence and AnnMarie Haslbauer, Deborah and Timothy Ryan.   He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren Lawrence, Stephen and Brittany Haslbauer as well as Timothy Jr., Thomas and Theodore Ryan.  His younger brother John Haslbauer also survives him as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of his life on Tuesday December 16th, 2025  3PM – 7PM at Park Funeral Chapels in New Hyde Park.  Burial will be on Wednesday December 17th, 2025  12PM-1230PM at Calverton National Cemetery
