Obituary of Helen M. Prunty - October 17, 1926 to January 4, 2026

Helen Margaret Prunty, at the age 99, of Garden City, New York, passed away peacefully in her Garden City home surrounded by her deeply-loved family.

Funeral visitation service will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, New Hyde Park, NY, on January 8, 2026 at 5 p.m., to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at St Joseph's R.C. Church, Garden City, NY on Friday, January 9th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Burial to follow the Mass, at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Flushing, NY at 12:30 p.m.

Helen was born in New York City on October 17th, 1926, to Catherine and Peter Prunty; a loving sister to Mary Anne Brennan (nee Prunty), Patrick Prunty, Peter Prunty and Theresa Fay (née Prunty). Each one gone before Helen and now in a loving embrace, as they receive their beautiful sister.

Helen grew up in the Longwood section of the South Bronx, in the St Anselm Parish, attending St Jean Baptiste Parochial School. The family moved to Jackson Heights during the end of Helen's High School years while siblings enlisted in the service during WWII. The family purchased a home in Flushing, New York, before her siblings had returned from the war, located in the Parish of St. Andrew's, delighting in neighbors and Parish Activities.

Helen worked for the Telegraph Company and then onto the New York Bell Telephone Company.  She was pleased in stating that she 'had been retired longer than she had worked'. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Pioneers, Telephone Company group of Volunteers. She appreciated many years in her summer home of more than 50 years in Southampton, NY, savoring the family year-round. Her walks on the bay and seashore, specifically, Mecox Beach, enthralled with her very close cousins.

Helen loved her siblings and family dearly. Helen was everyone's favorite Sister. Most notably, a most-adored Aunt to 23 Nieces and Nephews, all of whom treasured every priceless memory, very cherished moments, and countless beautiful stories of Helen's life, with their very dear and sweet Aunt Helen.

Helen is survived by her 23 nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses; 44+ great nieces and nephews and 26+ great-great nieces and nephews. All too many to name, although Helen keenly admired each individual's attributes.
