Obituary
Obituary of Marie Santa Marrara
We mourn the loss of Marie Santa Marrara, a remarkable woman who graced this world for 96
beautiful years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister,
godmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmela and
Luigi Lombardi, seven siblings, son, Michael Marrara, husband, Anthony Marrara, and daughter
in-law, Maria Marrara. Marie is survived by 3 of her 4 children, Diane Blanchard (husband
Robert), Dominic Marrara (wife Denise), and Linda Marrara; seven grandchildren, Kelli Smeltz,
Shawn Nolan, Nicholas Marrara, Gregory Blanchard, Daniel Marrara, Dana Blanchard, and Toni
Marie Blanchard; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was a loving, selfless, and inspirational mother and grandmother who found joy in the
simplest things. Above all else, she cherished her family. She lit up in the presence of her loved
ones and, as the matriarch of her immediate and extended family, became a constant source of
wisdom, comfort, and connection for all her nieces and nephews as well.
From her hands came the most magical Italian feasts, and from her heart came a warmth felt by
everyone she met. Known to her family as Santa, she lived life fully. Giving was second nature
to her, and she often sacrificed for those she loved, especially in her devotion to her daughter
Linda. She had a way of turning any gathering into a celebration, filled with incredible food,
Italian music, and her unforgettable, loving hugs.
Marie lived her life as a faithful daughter of God, guided by grace, selflessness, and unwavering
strength. Her legacy lives on every time we gather around a table, share a meal, play Italian
music, embrace one another, and love as generously as she taught us.
We invite you to share in celebrating her life on Friday, February 13th, from 4-8 pm at Park
Funeral Chapel, 2175 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park, NY (516-747-4300).
The funeral service will follow on Saturday, February 14th at 10 am at St. Martin of Tours
Church, 220 Central Avenue, Bethpage, NY.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the Linda Marrara Supplemental
Needs Trust. The family can be contacted for details.
