Baby George Thomas Obituary

Born on February 7th in Konni, Kerala, to the late C.M. George and

the late Kunjuamma George, Babyamma was the eldest of four

siblings: the late Gracykutty (Chacko), Leelamma (Thomas), and

Mathew C. George (Babu).

On May 16, 1968, she married George P. Thomas from Palathara

Modiyil House in Kidanganoor, Kerala. After their marriage, they

lived in Calcutta, India. In February 1972, Babyamma was sponsored

by her cousin, Joseph Mattackal, to immigrate to the United States.

She began working as a nurse at LaGuardia Hospital in Forest Hills,

NY, where she dedicated 30 years of service until her retirement. By

December 1972, her husband and son, Jiji, also immigrated to the

U.S. to join her.

As one of the first individuals of Malayalee origin to immigrate to the

U.S., Babyamma worked tirelessly to build a sense of community

through the church. She was one of the first office bearers of the

newly formed Mar Thoma/CSI congregation at a small church in

Jamaica, NY, which served as a gathering place for other young

Indian immigrants. Her involvement in the Mar Thoma Church was a

cornerstone of her life and something she took immense pride in.

In the mid to late 1970s, she was actively involved in the only Mar

Thoma Church in New York at the time, located in upper Manhattan.

By 1979, Babyamma and her family moved to Garden City Park, NY,

where she gave birth to her daughter, Jamie. In 1981, she became a

member of the Epiphany Mar Thoma Church, a membership she

cherished for 45 years until her passing. Her love for the church was

profound, and it deeply saddened her in her final years when her

illness prevented her from attending Sunday services regularly.

Babyamma was a woman who was truly blessed. She had a devoted

husband who adored her and tirelessly cared for her during her

health struggles in recent years. His unwavering support and selfless

ness were evident to all who witnessed it. She was a loving mother to

her two children and their spouses, Princy (wife of Jiji) and Jay

(husband of Jamie). She was also a proud and doting grandmother to

her four grandchildren: Melissa and Brittany (children of Jiji and

Princy) and Jude and Jaydn (children of Jamie and Jay).

When she left to be with her Heavenly Father on February 23, 2026,

her life stood as a testament to her pioneering spirit, her deep faith,

her dedication to her community, and her unwavering care for others.

She will be remembered as a proud Mar Thomite, a loving wife,

mother, and grandmother, and a woman who always placed her trust

in God first.
