George Samuel

Obituary of George M. Samuel

OBITUARY

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather George Mattapallil Samuel was promoted to glory on January 17, 2024 in Roslyn, New York at the age of 90.

He was born on December 2, 1933 in Kerala, India as the fifth child among five sons and four daughters to the late M.K. Samuel and Mary Samuel of the Chennankara family in Kariamplave, Ranny. During his formative years, he was influenced by his parents' devotion to faith and family, a legacy he carried throughout his life.

After high school, George moved to Bombay where he was baptized and in fellowship with Fort Assembly. His early career as a medical representative enabled him to pursue his passion for adventure and world travel.

In 1963, he married Aleyamma Mathai from Ooriyakunnathu House, Thiruvalla, and together they moved to the Middle East where they lived for 19 years, first in Saudi Arabia and then in Bahrain. He continued his work as a medical representative, eventually launching his own pharmacy and retail businesses.

George and Aleyamma were blessed with three sons, Stanley, Bobby and Binny, and enjoyed fellowship with the saints of Majlis Brethren Assembly. The family of five moved to New York in 1982, where they have lived for the last 41 years, and have been in fellowship at India Gospel Assembly in Elmont, New York.

He lived a full and blessed life, always surrounded by his loving family and cherished friends. George's fun-loving nature drew both young and old to him. He was a champion for young people in the work of the assembly and in the advancement of the gospel of Christ.

George was a loving and devoted husband and a true helpmate to his wife throughout their married life.

They were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this past March. He fostered open communication and shared decision-making with his children even from their young age. His grandchildren were his delight and comfort.

George is survived by his wife, Aleyamma, and children Stanley & Sandy, Bobby & Neena, and Binny & Priscilla; grandchildren Kevin & Christy, Bryan, Darren, Eric, Lauren & Anson, Ryan, Priyanka and Brandon; and great-grandson Nathan. He is also survived by his siblings Joy Jacob, Samuel John, Samuel Jacob, Molly John, and Benjamin Samuel. His brother Samuel Thomas and sisters Gracy Mathai and Kunjamma Thomas have entered into eternal rest.

While we are profoundly saddened by his sudden departure, we are comforted by the assurance of seeing him again on that beautiful shore.
