Obituary of Edith D. Francis

Edith Daisy Francis

Ms. Edith D. Francis died peacefully at the Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Port Washington, NY at the age of 94.

Edith is survived by her children, Bernadette and Bernard Longford, and her lovely granddaughter Tifané Williams. She leaves behind many loving relatives, inclusive of her nieces and nephews.

Edith was born on February 3, 1924, in St. John’s Antigua, W.I., to Fabian and Rebecca. She was married in 1943, to Thomas A. Longford, her first love, and later a soldier in the Royal Air Force in England. Her children, family and friends remember her as being supremely loving and generous, as well as being incredibly disciplined with enormously high expectations for her loved ones.

Trained as an accountant, Edith, upon emigrating to the United States of America, rose to become the head of her division at the flagship Mays Department Store in Union Square, Manhattan, NY. She was an active and dedicated member of the church and an eager volunteer of her services in whatever capacity needed.
