Obituary of Henry J. Capozzi
Henry James Capozzi was born on April 7, 1927 to Jennie and James G. Capozzi, their second child, following his sister Mella. He was raised in Brooklyn, served in securing Germany in World War II, returned to marry his lifelong love Mary Amore Capozzi in 1951. In 1959 they moved to their Manhasset Hills home they would share over the next 60 years in raising James, Joseph, and Maria.
Hank was renowned for his beaming smile, his warm, unassuming way, and thousands of jokes. His work was in iron and steel, detailing the manufacturing requirements for each piece of steel from the blueprints for countless New York City buildings. His attention to detail and mathematical prowess kept him busy and in demand as he worked into his 80s.
As Alzheimer’s set in almost ten years ago, it cruelly started to dull that sharp, calculating mind and Hank retired to focus on his lifelong passion: his family. He and Mary would finish out their 68 years of marriage in their beloved home on Lords Way. He took that home, bolstered it with steel, and cared for it with the same meticulous detail he utilized in his work. In his later years, while he still could, you might find Hank circling the property with salad tongs in hand picking up every single leave that dared litter the property.
Hank was an unwavering constant in the lives of his beloved Mary, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, close friends, and neighbors. Nary a soul would recall Hank and not mention his wonderful, friendly personality. He welcomed all, cherished his family, his faith, and his country.
