Obituary of Marie P. Louis-Araujo

This obituary is in the memory of Marie P. Louis-Araujo so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that her life was to us, and the pain that her passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.

She was 70 years young when she passed away on October 16, 2019. When she passed, she had lived a full life. She was born in Haiti. She had lived in Miami, Florida and Brooklyn, New York. She spent the last 20 years of her life living in the town of North Merrick, New York. She completed her Doctor of Medicine at the State University of Haiti in 1977. Then she moved the United States to begin her medical career. She went on to complete her medical residency at Cabrini Medical Center in New York with a focus in Adult Psychiatry. She worked as a Child Psychiatry Fellow at Brookdale Medical Center. She also completed a Geriatric Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She spent the last 15 years of her career working at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center.

One of the most important things in her life was giving. She always put others before herself. She was always willing to help someone, and she often gave herself last. She always made sure loved ones received phone calls on their birthdays and holidays. Above all, her most significant investment was her two daughters, Laurie and Ines. She worked to instill values in them that she lived by - kindness, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lauraliette Araujo and Laura Ines Araujo, along with a large extended family and very close circle of friends. Her family, and her role as a mother and was the most important thing to her. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.  The people she nurtured and the love she showed to all of us will live on and be with us even now that she has gone to be with God.
