I really wish I had some memory of uncle Pepe, my mother moved us to California, spent most of our lives away from New York and the family. In the late 90s we started to came back to our family. When spending time with Uncle Pepe he was always kind, thoughtful and shared a drink. During these times conversations would take place , showing his spirit of being a motivator ... if you were at some point in your life....Uncle Pepe would ask " what's the next step? When are you going to promote?" To me that showed he liked opening the thought ( planting the seed) to strive, to move up, be better and he didn't want people to be satisfied with becoming stagnant, that's my take. I appreciated the talks I did have with Uncle Pepe. Rest in peace Uncle Pepe. Love always.

I will never forget the first time i met Mr. Fortune. I went to Pepe's room one morning to ask him something, knocked on the door, heard someone mumble something. I thought Pepe was still sleeping or hung over from the night before. I came into his room to speak to him, i see an older version of Pepe, with a gray beard. He had come up to check in on his sons Academic progress. It demonstrated to me one thing that good fathers do. Mr. Fortune and his wife were also very accommodating to me whenever i visited their home. He raised a good family as evidenced by how well his children have grown into responsible adults and good people.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Pépé’s as a gentle soul. He was always kind and made you feel welcome in his home. He fought a great fight with tremendous courage and dignity. An exemplary warrior, he never complained but lived life to the fullest. Rest in peace my cousin. With sincere regrets, McGowan family.
