Obituary of Mariamma John
November 7, 1925 - November 17, 2020
“Surely, goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of
the Lord forever.” - Psalm 23:6
Mariamma John, our beloved Ammachi, was born to Chacko and Sosamma John (Muthoot
Padijarathil, Puliyoor) as the eldest of six children. From an early age, she exemplified a humble
and godly spirit that always focused on others.
She married Charuvil Chandy John, a widower and father of three young children: Baby (NY),
Kunjamma (deceased), and Ammini (NY). Ammachi immediately took on the role of wife and
mother with the same love and servant’s heart that she displayed throughout childhood.
Together, Ammachi and Appachan would have eight more children: Podiamma (NY),
Georgekutty (deceased), Molly (PA), Georgekutty (deceased), Lillykutty (deceased), Wilson
(NY), Susy (PA), and Reji (TX).
Appachan and Ammachi began their life together in Pennukkara, Chengannur. They later
moved to Trivandrum to manage a business based there. Eventually, they settled in
Nannattukavu, a place near Pothencode in Trivandrum. Ammachi created a home in
Nannattukavu that was known as a place of comfort for many. Her heart overflowed for those in
need, and her doors were always open to share the compassion and generosity of her savior.
She was passionate about giving beyond her limits. If she had two of anything, she would strive
to give one away to someone in need. It was in Trivandrum that Ammachi gave her heart to
Jesus and began a lifelong journey with her master.
Ammachi was a devoted member at Pattom Church of God in Trivandrum. Even in the midst of
hardship, Ammachi cared for many servants of God and gave sacrificially. She was often the
first to help those with physical and developmental disabilities. To this day, many friends and
neighbors recall her hospitality as something they will never forget.
In 1985, Ammachi and Appachan emigrated to the U.S. to be with their children and
grandchildren. Ammachi cherished the generations that God blessed her with. She lived to see
15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and even two great-great-grandchildren. Ammachi’s
life left a legacy of unconditional love and compassion. Surely, goodness and love followed her.
