Obituary of Annamma P. Mathai

Mrs. Annamma P. Mathai, 81 years old, went Home to be with Our Father and all the saints on Friday, March 5, 2021. She was born on August 18, 1939, to the late Mr. Angailthazha Mathai Pothen and the late Mrs. Achamma Mathai Pothen (Angailthazha Mahattil, Kaviyoor, Tiruvalla, Kerala.) She was the second of five children. She completed her nursing education in Indore and Delhi, worked as a nurse in India and Bahrain, and then migrated to the United States in 1971 as the next step in her nursing career. She married Rev. Dr. Nanathra Koshy Mathai on December 23, 1972 in New York City and was blessed with two children and three grandchildren. She was so many things to so many people: a precious child of God; a dearly loved wife, mother, and grandmother; a beloved daughter, sister, family member, and friend; a well-respected and valued member of the St. Thomas Evangelical Church of India, New York Parish; a proud member of the Indian community; a mother figure to so many, a hard-working nurse, a straight-talker, and an amazing chef. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Rev. Dr. N. K. Mathai; daughter Ms. Mary Mathai; son Mr. Koshy Mathai and wife Mrs. Anjali Mathai; three beautiful grandchildren who have always been the apples of her eye, Tristan, Rohan, and Kiran Mathai; and three sisters, Mrs. Mariamma Kurien, Mrs. Saramma Mathew, and Mrs. Susamma Joseph. She was preceded by her brother, the late Mr. A. P. Mathai. Throughout her life, she gave her best in all her relationships and she will be dearly missed by us all. We will continue to carry her with us in our hearts and we look forward to seeing her again one day in Glory.
