Obituary of Melissa Irene Bauer

With great sadness, George and Marcy Bauer report that their beloved daughter and life-long happy little girl, Melissa Irene Bauer, died on May 5, 2021, two days shy of her 39th birthday. She lived life simply, with an infectious smile for all. Those fortunate enough to have known Melissa have happy memories of her sweetness. She made us smile with her. She loved everything Disney, especially going to Walt Disney World. She rode on all the WDW rides and attractions and loved them. Melissa always scored well on the Toy Story Mania and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin attractions. Melissa was also an expert-level Wii Video-Bowling champ and could easily beat her parents' best scores. Melissa was excited to serve as a beautiful bridesmaid in her beloved sister Maren's wedding last October. She adored her brother Garrett and her nephew Nate. Melissa lived in group homes run by Citizens Options Unlimited. Until recently she lived a supported good life in the Pickwick house in Syosset with her good friends Jenny, Liz, Sara, Amanda, Robyn and Jamie. More recently, as her health declined, Melissa moved to Citizens’ Helen Kaplan Program in Plainview where a wonderful staff provided round-the-clock care and nursing. Melissa had the knack of being happy. Although she had many obstacles in her way she managed to get through the tough spots and smile happily most of the time. We loved her and miss her, and will cherish her memory.
