Obituary of Irene M. Shields

Irene Mary Shields (nee Barber) passed away peacefully on June 9, 2021 at the age of 83. Devoted wife of the late Robert. Loving mother of Robert (Maria), Mary (Thomas Ollquist) and Nancy (Anton Pedisich). Proud grandmother of Robert (Michelle), William, and Elizabeth (Ryan Proto) Shields; Thomas (Sheila), John, and Stephen Ollquist, and Bryan and Brendan Pedisich. Proud Great Grandmother of Katherine and Paul Proto and Luke Ollquist. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 31, 1937, Irene and her siblings Howard and Judy grew up in Wyandanch, NY. Irene met her husband Bob in 1957 on a blind date, and they married in 1958. They raised their family together in East Meadow, until Bob’s death in February of 2000. Irene remained in the home she loved until she passed away, of Alzheimer’s Disease, on June 9, 2021.
