Ana Bront

Obituary of Ana Bront

Ana Bront was born in Cociuba Mare, Bihor, Romania. Her maiden name was Dan. Her father, Mihai Dan, was the mayor of the town. Ana had three sisters. Since she did not have any brothers, her father trained her in doing any type of work. She was a knowledgeable beekeeper although her favorite work was knitting. Ana loved gardening. Ana’s family sheltered a Jewish family during the second world war, and this was one of her fondest memories. Ana married Vasile Bront, and they had one daughter, Elena. Since 1984, she lived with Elena and her son in law, Luis. Her name at home was Maicuța. Ana has two granddaughters, Alexa and Gabi, and five great-grandchildren. “What a blessing!” she used say. She loved playing with all of them “peekaboo,” and that is how they remember her. Although she did not speak English, Ana used to talk to neighbors in Romanian, and she was convinced everybody understood her. She listened to the news, and in the evening she would tell everybody at home her own version of the news. It was a funny version, though. Ana spent her last days reading the Bible and praying. She loved telling her family members what she read, and she would not go to bed without telling Elena and Luis what she read in the Bible that day.
