Obituary of Varughese Thekkakaramannil

Our beloved Achenkunju was born to Kurian Simon and Achamma Simon, of Thekkakaramannil House, Konni, Kerala, on April 28, 1948. He was second oldest of five siblings.   He married Mariamma Varughese in October 1974. After a few years in New Delhi, they immigrated to the U.S. in 1975. They lived in the Bronx, New York, starting his career working in the hospital lab and eventually moving to work for the New York City Transit for over 25 years. It was during this time that he had two children: Ansu and Anija.    He was a man of faith and love for our living Lord Jesus Christ. He was very passionate about his family and our Malayalee community. He was one of the original founding members of the World Malayalee Council and Kerala Center. He loved traveling, gardening, art, photography, cooking and participating in our community events. Of all these, his greatest passion was his grandchildren: Aaron, Sophia, Daniel and Christopher.   Achenkunju is survived by his wife Mariamma Varughese, his daughters Ansu Joy and Anija Tom, sons-in-law Prince Joy and Abey Tom, grandchildren Aaron Joy, Sophia Joy, Daniel Tom, and Christopher Tom and siblings Marykutty Alexander, T.S.
