Obituary of Lt. Stephen Shyti

Lieutenant Stephen Shyti, age 63, of New Hyde Park, NY, died on September 7, 2021. He fought valiantly to survive, but in the end, his body was overwhelmed from complications due to COVID-19. Steve was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, the son of proud hard-working immigrant parents, Todi and Gina Shyti. He graduated from St. John's University with a business degree, and ultimately found a job he truly loved as an officer working for the NYSC. He was so proud of his profession and wore his badge with immense honor. Lieutenant Stephen Shyti began his career in the Unified Court System on February 21, 1995. He was assigned to New York County Criminal Court at 100 Centre Street and spent his entire career in that courthouse. A valued and experienced Court Officer, he promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003. As a Sergeant, he would impart his vast knowledge of the court system on the Officers he supervised, relishing the role of teacher. In 2017, Stephen promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and worked in the Operations Office. He was an integral component to the daily operation of the busiest courthouse in the United States. In his free time, you could find him at a NY Mets, Rangers, or Giants game, always the loudest voice in the crowd. He had the opportunity to see them all win championships - 1986, 1994, 2008 were his favorite. Or one may have caught him at his favorite rock concert, with a love for music as life's soundtrack he would pass on to both his children. Most recently he enjoyed watching his grandsons learn his favorite sport - baseball - one he played with passion since he was a child. Sunday mornings were for softball - he played for and managed so many teams throughout the years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lucy, of 40 years, two children Jennifer and Christopher and their spouses David and Elissa, three wonderful grandsons James, Alexander and Maximo, and his brother Dan and his wife Jackie, daughter Nicole and son Danny.
