Obituary of Sheila Koshy

Mrs.Sheila Verghese (nee Koshy) [18.08.1954 to 08.02.2022] Sheila Verghese, 67, was called to the Lord on 08 February 2022. She was born on 18 August 1954 to Late Major John Koshy and Mrs Thankamma Koshy of the Nariyinchil family in Kirkee, Pune, India as the second of two children. She had her primary education in Pune and Kerala. Later she moved with her father, who was serving in the Indian Army and continued her studies in stations where he was posted and completed her high school studies in Holy Angels Convent in T.Nagar, Chennai. Thereafter, she did her undergraduate studies in English Literature from Women’s Christian College, Chennai. Post her marriage, she completed her graduate studies and her B.Ed degree. She was married to Major T A Verghese (Sunny), who hails from Thiluzhathile family in Kallissery, Kerala. She moved with him to the places of his posting. While posted in Chief Engineer’s Office in Secunderabad, Major Verghese died due to a heart attack on 13 April 1991. By then, Sheila had already joined the Kendriya Vidhyalaya as a trained graduate teacher. She continued to serve in Kendriya Vidyalaya, mostly in Chennai and for a brief time in Kerala, until her retirement in 2014. She is survived by her mother Thankamma (97 years), elder daughter Susha, son-in-law Prakash, their children Rachel and Neil and younger daughter Nisha, son-in-law Robin and their daughter Rebecca. She will be remembered as a loving wife and a courageous mother who brought up her daughters after Sunny’s demise almost single-handedly and being a strong pillar in their growth, education and careers. She was a caring daughter to her parents. She was a dedicated teacher, respected by her students and colleagues. She had a dignified personality and was always a picture of grace and elegance with strong faith in the Lord. She was a warm and loyal friend with her friendships spanning over a lifetime. She will live in our hearts forever.
