Obituary of Bernice Goldberg
Bernice Peritz Goldberg aka Bernice Perry, 98, of New York, New York, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Downtown).
Bernice was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Sam and Helen Peritz on January 27, 1924. She graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, New York in 1941. She married Rubin Goldberg on May 17,1953 in Brooklyn, New York. Bernice worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator for the Israel Discount Bank in Manhattan for many years until her early retirement in 1982.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents Samuel Kilow Peritz and Helen Kirsch Peritz, her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Martin Pincus, Her niece Randi Pincus, her brother-in-law Milton Glass and her ex-husband Rubin Goldberg.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Ellyn Goldberg and Shari Mathieu, her sister, Renee Glass, her grandchildren Joseph Francaviglia, Graeme Mathieu, and Nyssa Mathieu MacDonald and her great-grandchildren Brandon and Ryan Francaviglia, her niece Jill Glass Easton, her nephews Mikel Glass and Alan Pincus, her great-niece Katie Pincus Ernst and her long time caregiver and companion Joy Williams.
Bernice's passion was writing song lyrics and having music put to them. She composed 316 songs and was an award winning member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP.) For many years she also produced and hosted her own public access cable TV shows on Manhattan Cable entitled The Choice is Yours and Frankly Speaking with Bernice Perry where she interviewed celebrities in the style of Barbara Walters. Bernice will also always be remembered as the world's most faithful and devoted Frank Sinatra fan. Funeral services and burial will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, July 11, 2022 at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 7800 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale, New York with Rabbi Stephen B. Dresner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center Foundation.
