Kottarathil Abraham

Obituary of Kottarathil Augusthy Abraham

Mr. Abraham Kottarathil (Avirachen), son of Augusthy Mathai and Aleyamma Augusthy, was born in Manalumkal, Pala on March 11, 1932 and went to his Eternal Home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2022 at the age of 90. He married Clara (Chinnamma) Chacko from the Chuzhikunnel family in Cheruvally, Kanjirappally and raised five children together. At a young age, Abraham inherited his father’s and oldest brother’s business. Abraham was a God-fearing man. He always stressed the need to attend church, loved to pray, and taught his children the importance of prayer. If his wife and children woke up early enough, they would see him standing in the prayer room with his hands folded in worship to God. He was the kindest, most generous, and giving soul. He never hesitated to welcome others into his home with open arms and everyone was always sure to leave feeling as if they were family. He loved to read his Bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on his face. Most of all, he loved his family and instilled good values in his children and grandchildren. He always emphasized the importance of education. He was a caring husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. He was always willing to help everyone and was good to those whom he met. He will be greatly missed by his wife, all his children and grandchildren. Abraham was well-rounded and had various interests, such as reading, cycling, learning kalaripayattu and yoga, playing badminton, and listening to songs. He would learn devotional, Hindi and Malayalam songs and teach them to his children so that they could sing them at recitals. Based off his readings, he skillfully composed powerful speeches for his children to recite at speech and debate competitions. He was a dedicated father; he woke up early to bring his children to the track to help them train for sprinting races. He went above and beyond for his family and friends. He was a firm rock for everyone around him and he remained unwavering in difficult circumstances. Abraham is survived by his wife, Clara Abraham; their children: Shiny Sajan, Sheena Mathew, Shinu John, Shino Abraham, and Shinto Abraham; his in-laws: Sajan Cheripuram, Mathew Kuruppamparambil, Tony Nirappil, Shinu Alenchery, and Remia Kadamkulam. His grandchildren are Jensine Sajan, Jason Sajan, Ashish Mathew, Ashina Mathew, Luis John, Dave John, Aleena Shino, Kevin Shino, Mathew Shino, Martin Shinto, and Maria Shinto. Our family would like to thank the special people who came to visit him and cared for him. Thank you to all the church members, friends, relatives, co-workers and all priests, especially our vicar Fr. John Meleppuram, Fr. Joshy Elambasseril, Fr. Siby Alenchery, and Fr. Ciya Thomas for praying for us, guiding, supporting, and comforting us during this difficult time. It is very difficult to say goodbye, even though we will meet our Pappa again in Heaven. Pappa told his grandchildren that even though there will come a time when he is not with us in person, he will always be watching over and praying for us. Pappa was loved by so many and will be dearly missed by all.
