Obituary of Harold J Krug

Harold James Krug of Mineola, New York, passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the age of 90.

Harold (lovingly known as Harry or Howie) was born in Williamsburg Brooklyn on June 23, 1933, to father Harold Krug and mother Helen Genevich.

Harry enjoyed sun filled days at Coney Island, playing handball, swimming, running, and lifting weights. Some of which he continued well into his eighties. A lot of who Harry was, was due to his grandmother, who raised him. She taught him well and he loved her dearly. He loved learning, gardening, walking for miles each day, listening to all genres of music, and reading.  He was one of the most humble people. At his core, Harry loved sharing teachable moments, especially with the younger generation. From teaching his nephews chess to sharing his favorite songs or stories with anyone who would listen, Harry left an impression on  the young and old alike. He was a man who could find the humor in all things. He will be remembered by all who had the opportunity to meet him and will be greatly missed.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister Dorothy Gagliardi and brother-in-law Michael Dillon.

He is survived by his wife Maura Dillon Krug; daughters Karenann Krug Shanley (Richie), Kim Louise Matthews (Jim) and Kristina Krug-Wagner; brothers-in-law, Matthew Dillon(Rita), Patrick Dillon(Joanne); nephew Kyle Dillon (Rachel); niece Molly Dillon; grandchildren Jimmy Matthews, Jr., Jonathan Matthews(Haley), Kaitlyn Matthews, Justin Matthews(Mary), Joseph Matthews, Jeffrey Matthews, Karis Matthews, Kyla Wagner, Aidan Wagner; great grandchildren Gabe and Gideon Matthews.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Harry's name to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center liver transplant program, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
