Obituary of Robert Peter DeCandia

n loving memory of Robert P. DeCandia. Bob passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 at the age of 79. He was born in Brooklyn on June 23,1944 to Louis and Marie. He went to St. Mary's Elementary School and Trinity High School. Bob became a member of the NYPD in 1966 and rose to the rank of Sergeant Special Assignment in 1999. He was awarded the Combat Cross in 2005. He spent 40 years in the Department and retired as a member of the Emergency Service Unit in 2006. He loved his job and performed it faithfully and efficiently. He met his beloved wife Diane at Patrick's Pub in 1974. They married in 1976 and had two children, Michael and Ellen. Bob was a smart, gentle, quiet, loving and generous man who was totally devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor. He was a dedicated Yankee fan, a collector of stamps and coins, was an avid reader of non-fiction and was always drawn to books about history. He loved fine dining, especially at his favorite Italian restaurant, Stella Ristorante. He is survived by his wife and two children, his two grandchildren, Amelia and Wesley, his son-in-law Scott Nieri and his brother-in-law, Don Fiumarella. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
