Obituary of Philip Edward Russo
April 17, 1955 - Dec 23, 2023
Phil loved his automotive and body shop.
The shop was open 6 days a week, for 48 years. What a run that is!
It started out named as "World Auto" around 1976 with John Scollo. Both grew up about six blocks from the shop.
Our Mom and Dad always knew he would be doing something mechanical.
They knew this because he took his first bicycle apart.
Phil was in heaven at the shop with his father there and either Sandy the golden retriever, then Champie the Weimaraner there. The set up was Phil had the office, Pop had his chair and the dog had their chair too. It was home away from home.
The shop eventually morphed into the "Phil Russo" shop.
There was nothing he could not repair. Be it cars, boats, trailers, snowblowers, electrical or plumbing issues. If it was broken Phil could fix it.
He loved all his customers and he loved going fast. Be it big jet boats going 100 mph, fast cars with big blocks, running the Enduro Race at Southampton and winning, or racing at a drag strip upstate. He even talked his sister into racing down the drag strip scared out of her mind..
Phil never said no to his friends or customers. Many customers became close friends. He loved his shop and he loved all of you.
