Sandhyaben Shah

Obituary of Sandhyaben Rasiklal Shah

Sandhya Shah’s soul has started her journey to merge with God on January 10, 2024 after persevering through amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Sandhya was born on August 13, 1957 in Valod/Surat, Gujarat, India. She started her medical career as an Ayurvedic physician in 1980, serving those in need in Gunaswel, Gujarat. In 1982, she married her love and went to Bharuch to join her husband in his busy pediatric practice and had two sons. She immigrated to the US with her family in 1993 to support the dreams of her husband and provide a better future for her children, leaving the luxury of her life in Bharuch, India.

After dealing with several hardships, she restarted her medical education from scratch to continue her dream of being a healthcare professional. Following various ups and downs, and many relocations, she finally settled down in Mineola in her dream house and worked as a Physician Assistant at the Northwell Health System. She won a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of “exceptional leadership, devoted service to patient care, and selfless support for her colleagues.” To give further attention to her family, she stepped down from her administrative roles but continued her clinical care. She dedicated her life to her family and helping people through her medical skills. She also deeply valued her religious faith and connection to God.

She is survived by her husband, Rasik V. Shah; two sons, Pranav and Kartik; daughter-in law, Trista; two grandsons, Nikhil and Ravi; sister, brother, and an extended family in the US and India.

She enjoyed traveling, music, cooking, and gardening. She was remarkable for her self-sacrifice, perseverance, kindness, and love.
