I knew Mr. DeFalco (Joe) when I worked in Sporting Goods at the old Times Square Store at Levittown, Long Island in the summer of 1971. At the time, Joe was a TSS corporate executive for hunting & shooting sports and public relations, and he would stop at the store regularly to look things over. I mentioned to him once that I was considering dropping out of college to make retailing my permanent career, without finishing my college education. Well, Joe would have none of it, and he insisted that I put that notion aside and complete my schooling. Thanks to Joe’s encouragement, I did so, and earned my B.A. degree. Several years ago, I wrote to him and thanked him for his life-changing advice, and I kept in touch on his birthdays. Few people have had such an impact on my life, and I will be forever grateful to him. Rest in peace, Joe.
