Obituary of Anthony T. Samartano

Anthony Samartano was born on October 20, 1925, inBrooklyn, NY and passed away peacefully at his home in Floral Park on October 30, 2024.
Anthony (Tony) is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Grace (Cascio), and his children, Marie Hill, Thomas, Theresa Jordon (Bill) and Peter. He is also survived by 9grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Salvatore Samartano,and his sisters and brothers.
Tony proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Bennington in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He worked for 30 years at the NYC Health Department, where he developed lifelong friendships. Tonyand Grace enjoyed traveling and hosting get-togethers forfamily and friends. He inherited his green thumb from his father and happily shared the fruits of his garden with theneighbors. Tony was a loyal friend and civic-minded member of the Floral Park community.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and his family is fortunate to have many wonderful and fun memories from fishing trips and other adventures. When his grandchildren came along, he became the beloved and devoted “Popi”.  They shared many hours in his workshop learning how to use his toolswhile singing silly songs. 
Tony loved his family deeply and was adored in return. Hewill be greatly missed.
