I never met Johnny in person but I feel as if I knew him very well through Chris Valenti's Big Band radio show on WYYR.COM. I did have the privilege of talking to him on the phone several times, so I got to hear some of his wonderful stories. Johnny was a wonderful story himself. I don't think a kinder, gentler soul ever existed. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Johnny TV, as he is known to my radio listeners, has not only been a big part of mine and my families life, but also a big staple of our broadcasts. This has, just as you, been a very tough time for myself and my family. To show my gratitude for this wonderful man, this Saturday nights show will be dedicated to Johnny's memory. We will not only be playing some of his favorite records, but we'll also get to hear him again as he called into the show on some very special clips we found in the archives. This effort would not have ever been done for anyone else, as it is NOT an effort, it is a joy. The same joy he has brought so many of us for being the most gentle and loving guy we ever knew. For those of you who would like to call in live to the show to express some thoughts about this great man, a great American WWII hero, please call 917 889 7819 early on from 9pm to 11pm est. A CD of this special programming will be sent to his wonderful wife who I had the pleasure of speaking to last night. Here is a link to this particular program this Saturday: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thebigbands/2011/09/11/weekly-1930s-1940s-all-request-big-band-broadcast-72311
Once again, we all love Johnny and as always, we know he'll be listening in on Saturday because he is the best, Chris Valenti. My personal station # is 772 940 4000. www.WYYR.com

Lisa, Gia and I are truly saddened about the loss of your father. Please know that you and your whole family are in our thoughts and prayers. I know how much he loved Big Band music and often thought of him when I would listen to my Louis Armstrong “Classic Satch” CD. His memory will live with all of us forever.

We are all truly saddened by the loss of such an extraordinary man.
John loved life, family, and friends and it was a pleasure to be in his company.
How lucky for us to have been given the gift of becoming family to this very, very kind man.
With much sadness, we say goodnight to a gentle giant.

Hey Lisa, thought of you when we saw this Dr Seuss quote,"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Smile is what you do when you think of John - a gentleman who is sweet, caring, loving and generous. We know he loved his Lisa, Veronica & Billy because family always came first. He's in our hearts forever.

Every time I saw John he had a smile on his face. He always made me feel welcome in his home, he made me feel like family. I admire him for his spirit and I hope some of that spirit rubbed off on all of us.
I will miss his stories and his smile very much.
My thoughts and sympathy go out to your family.
